The sun’s out from retirement, just in time for one of the most highly anticipated summer events in Seattle, Seafair! Seafair weekend has been a Seattle tradition for the past 62 years, where hundreds of thousands of people come from near and far to celebrate our wonderful NW Community and soak up some much needed vitamin D. This month-long summer festival has a wide range of fun activities for all ages, and best of all, almost all of them are FREE!
Blue Angels Air Show: People young and old enjoy the jaw dropping, fist clenching, oohs and ahhs, air show performed by the famous Blue Angels. This talented group of fighter jet pilots travel the Nation demonstrating their choreographed routines in front of thousands of fans of all ages. The Blue Angels have performed since 1946, and are one of the main highlights of Seafair each year. The best part about this complimentary show is Seattleites from all neighborhoods can see it, although the Blue Angels center near theI-90 bridge.. The Blue Angels start practicing for their show on Wednesday August 1st, but will have performances all weekend long, Friday through Sunday, from 1:30-2:30pm. Don’t worry, you’ll know the show has started when you hear their engines flying above you!
Wing Dome Eating Contest: Come on down to Genesee Park on Lake Washington’s “South Beach” area for a prime view of, not only the events happening on the water, but also for the Wing Dome Eating Contest! On Seafair’s final day, Sunday August 5th at 3 P.M., the Wing Dome Championship Challenge will take place, showcasing the finalists in the Wing Dome eating contest. You can test your taste buds at the seven-alarm wing challenge all weekend. There will even be a few special celebrity guests partaking in the eating festivities.
Hydro Racing: One of the biggest, most thrilling events going on at Seafair all weekend: the hydroplane races! Held near the shores of Stan Sayres Memorial Park, the races are spread out over the final three days of the festival (Friday-Sunday). This event is extremely unique to Seafair, and a great spectating sport. Come down and enjoy the food and beverage booths surrounding the event, and watch these high-speed hydroplanes zip around the course, reaching speeds of up to over 100MPH.
